Integrating with Shopify

Connecting RankPush to Shopify turns your AI-generated content into published blog posts that drive traffic to your online store. Every finished article lands on your Shopify blog fully formatted — images, meta description, SEO title, slug and headings in place — with no copying and pasting, no formatting errors, and the choice of publishing instantly or hidden for review.

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Admin access to your Shopify store (you'll create a small app for it)
  • At least one blog set up in Shopify (Online Store → Blog posts → Manage blogs)

Connecting Your Shopify Store

You create your own app in the Shopify Dev Dashboard (about three minutes), then paste its Client ID and Client Secret into RankPush. RankPush handles the token exchange and refresh automatically from then on.

Which path is right for you? The steps below are for the owner of the store's Shopify organization. If you manage a store you don't own (agency or staff account), skip them: ask the owner for an Admin API access token with the read_content and write_content scopes, then use “Advanced: connect with an Admin API access token” on the connect form — ten seconds, none of Shopify's app-creation hurdles.

    Open the Dev Dashboard

    Go to dev.shopify.com/dashboard and log in with the Shopify account that owns your store. Staff accounts see “Your account doesn't have developer access yet” — ask the owner to grant you Developer access (Shopify admin → Settings → Users), or skip the app entirely and connect with an Admin API access token (see the troubleshooting note below).

    Create a new app

    Click Create app, choose Start from Dev Dashboard, give it a name (e.g. “RankPush”) and click Create.

    Configure API scopes and release

    On the version page, set the App URL to https://rankpush.ai/docs/shopify — that's the page that opens when you click the app inside Shopify admin. Under Access → Select scopes, search for “content” and tick read_content and write_content, click Done, then click Release to create a version.

    Copy your credentials

    Open your app's Settings page on the Dev Dashboard. Copy the Client ID and the Client Secret.

    Install the app on your store

    First, on the app's Overview page, find the Distribution card and click Select distribution method → choose Custom distribution and enter your store's .myshopify.com address (live stores can't install an app without this; development stores skip it). Then go to Home, click Install, pick your store and confirm. The “this app hasn't been reviewed” notice is normal — it's your own private app.

    Connect in RankPush

    1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Shopify in your RankPush dashboard
    2. Enter your store URL — the your-store.myshopify.com address, shown in Shopify admin under Settings → Domains — plus the Client ID and Client Secret
    3. Click Connect — RankPush validates the credentials and fetches your blogs
    4. Select which blog to publish to (and whether articles go live immediately or hidden for review)
    5. Click Complete setup

The Marz Blog Writer app (recommended)

The simplest way to connect a Shopify store is through Marz Blog Writer, a free app on the Shopify App Store. Install it, open it from your Shopify admin, go to Connect an app, press Create key, and paste the key into RankPush under Settings → Integrations → Shopify. RankPush publishes through the app; it never holds a Shopify login or token for your store, and you can revoke the key inside the app at any time.

Before saving, RankPush shows you which store the key belongs to and asks you to confirm. If that store is not yours, stop: the key was created on the wrong store. Reinstalling the app invalidates every key it issued before, so after a reinstall create a fresh key and reconnect.

One-click install

RankPush is also available as an app on the Shopify App Store. When your integration page shows a Connect with one click card, you can skip the steps above: enter your store name, approve RankPush on Shopify's consent screen, and you're connected. Articles then publish to your store's first blog; to choose a specific blog, use the setup above instead.

Store URL Format

You can enter your store URL in any of these formats:

  • your-store.myshopify.com
  • https://your-store.myshopify.com
  • your-store (we add .myshopify.com for you)

Using a custom domain? You still need your original .myshopify.com URL for the API connection — you'll find it in Shopify admin under Settings → Domains.

Selecting Your Blog

During setup you choose which blog RankPush publishes to. Shopify stores can have several blogs — “News” (the default), “Blog”, “Articles”, or custom names you've created. RankPush maps each article to Shopify's structure automatically:

  • Title, content (HTML) and excerpt
  • Slug (handle) — set once at creation and never changed by later updates
  • Featured image with descriptive alt text
  • SEO title and meta description in the standard global.title_tag / global.description_tag metafields every theme reads

Updating Published Articles

After an article is published to Shopify you can keep editing it in RankPush. Make your changes in the editor and click Update Article — the same Shopify article is updated in place, and its URL never changes.

Troubleshooting

›“Your account doesn't have developer access yet” on the Dev Dashboard
Your Shopify login isn't the store owner and hasn't been granted developer access, so the Dev Dashboard won't let you create apps. Three ways forward: (1) ask the store owner to grant your user Developer access under Shopify admin → Settings → Users; (2) have the owner run steps 1–5 themselves and send you the Client ID, Client Secret and store URL for step 6; or (3) skip the app entirely — an owner-created Admin API access token (starts with shpat_, needs the read_content and write_content scopes) works via “Advanced: connect with an Admin API access token” on the connect form.
›How does the store owner create an Admin API access token? (for agencies/staff)
Only the store owner (or someone with full admin) can mint one — it's a Shopify credential, so there's no way around asking them. Owner steps: in Shopify admin open Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps (allow custom app development if prompted) → Create an app → under Configuration → Admin API integration enable read_content and write_content → Install app → on the API credentials tab reveal the Admin API access token (shown once — copy it) and send it to whoever manages RankPush, together with the store's .myshopify.com address. If the store's admin doesn't have a “Develop apps” page (newer stores), the owner should instead run steps 1–5 of the main guide above and hand over the Client ID and Client Secret — those work pasted by anyone, because the app lives in the store's own organization.
›“This app can't be installed yet — the app developer needs to select a distribution method”
Live stores require the app to have a distribution method before installing (development stores don't, which is why the video skips this). On the app's Overview page open the Distribution card → Select distribution method → Custom distribution → enter your store's .myshopify.com address, then install again. Note: custom distribution permanently ties the app to that one store — which is exactly what you want for this private connector.
›Connection fails at “Connect”
Double-check the three fields: the store URL must be the .myshopify.com address (not a custom domain), and the Client ID / Client Secret must come from your app's Settings page on the Dev Dashboard. Then confirm the app is installed on your store(step 5) — credentials only work after installation.
›“Shopify rejected the Client ID / Client Secret”
Three common causes: (1) the app was created but not yet released or installed — Versions should show an active version and Home should show it installed on your store; (2) a copy/paste slip — re-copy both values from the app's Settings page; (3) the app was created in a different Shopify organization than the one that owns your store — Shopify only honors Client ID/Secret for same-organization apps, even when the app is installed. In that case create the app inside the store's own organization, or skip the app and connect with an owner-created Admin API access token (“Advanced” on the connect form).
›My blogs don't show up during setup
Your store may not have a blog yet — create one under Online Store → Blog posts → Manage blogs → Add blog, then click Back and Connect again. If you have blogs but still see none, the app is probably missing the read_content scope: add it, release a new version, reinstall, and reconnect.
›Articles fail to publish
Open the article from the calendar — the reason is shown at the top (for example a revoked app or a missing write_content scope). Fix it on the Shopify side, then click Publish again. Scope changes always need a new release + reinstall of your app.
›Where do my articles go?
To the blog you selected during setup, under Online Store → Blog posts in Shopify admin. Articles set to “hidden for review” are there too — just unpublished.
›I use a custom domain — which URL do I enter?
Always the .myshopify.com URL. Your custom domain keeps working for visitors; the API connection just needs Shopify's original address.

›Can I publish to multiple Shopify stores?
Each RankPush website connects to one store. Running several stores? Add each as its own website in RankPush (volume pricing applies) and connect them separately.
›How quickly do articles appear on my live store?
Immediately when set to “Publish live immediately” — the article is live on your blog seconds after RankPush publishes it. Hidden-for-review articles appear as soon as you set them visible in Shopify.
›Does this work on every Shopify plan?
Yes — creating an app in the Dev Dashboard and blog publishing are available on all Shopify plans, including trials.
›What happens if I uninstall the app from my store?
Publishing stops and RankPush marks the integration disconnected. Already-published articles stay on your blog. Reinstall the app and reconnect from Settings → Integrations → Shopify to resume.
›Can I switch to a different blog later?
Yes — disconnect and reconnect, and pick the new blog on the “Select Blog” step. Existing articles stay where they were published.

Security

  • Your Client Secret is stored encrypted and only used to mint short-lived tokens at publish time — it can't be read back out of RankPush
  • The app you create needs only read_content and write_content — nothing else
  • Revoke access at any time by uninstalling the app in Shopify admin; disconnecting never deletes published articles
